  day three
a little bit of an emotional day...the lack of sleep is catching up to me. I still haven't adjusted to the new time here, still waking up really early and not being able to go back to sleep. My body is upset with me...but it was a good day, PTL!

I ride the bus downtown everyday..it's 40 minutes each way... and coming home today I really started to think ( I don't do it often). A lot of people in downtown Victoria do "outreach." They bring food to the homeless, provide shelter (or try too), toilets and showers, drug clinics and counselling etc. I got to thinking how should evangelism be different then outreach? Or should it? Do they go together? How should an evangelist with a bag of food look/act different then the neighborhood outreach worker down the street with a bag of food? Is it evangelism in a true form without using words? What does the word evangelist mean?

Thoughts?

Comments:
There are many sects of Evangelism we can look at, and I think what you want to see happen is need-oriented evangelism! What I hear you saying is that you see people providing for the needs of those IN need...That is outreach. What Need-oriented evangelism is, is seeing that you meet the needs of the people you want to minister, to ultimately build relationships with them. You don't JUST provide for the persons needs in the "soup kitchen" or the "sandwitch-bus" and leave satisfied with what you've done. You sit down and build relationships with them, caring for the individual, not the need itself. Sitting down with them and asking how they are doing on a daily bases...getting to know them as you provide for their needs. As they begin to trust you (which takes time) you see that they hear the gospel, and encourage them to be in contact with the Church you would see them fit to attend! That's my input...I could go on...I think I'm in my preaching voice now- haha...there ya go.

Erin, God bless you.
I can just picture you, hanging out with the youth, being someone there for them, talking them and changing them because of God's work through you. You're such a strong individual, with an amazing passion for whatever you do. haha, God blesses you Erin-face :)

The more I learn...the less I know...

"...we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Romans 5:3-5
